UPPMUNTRA: Store concept

I was part of an exploration project at IKEA Home smart. The Project was about exploring how we can create a solution where customers can experience a smart home, while in the store. The customers should be able to control IKEAs smart home devices from a touch screen. The second part was for the co-workers; the solution should be easy to install and set up.

A small team of me, a developer and the product owner got together to bring this project to shore. It was a technical challenge, as we wanted the IKEA store employees to be able to take a product off the shelf and install for this experience. It needed to be stable and not disconnect. Smart products are made for the home environment, and we didn’t know how much interference would exist in the store and affect the experience negatively. The solution should also support the full range or Lights, Speakers, Blinds, Air purifiers and outlets.
